This event remains as popular as ever with 330 horses taking part, more horses making it around the course than riders, nothing changes ! The going was near perfect, take-offs and landings had been prepared and the rain the day before was welcomed by me, probably not by the people on horseback on the Saturday morning. Credit must go to the course preparation team for all their hard work, the course looked really good and preparing take-off’s certainly was appreciated by the competitors.

There were 5 different classes during the day, 2 Hunter Trial classes and 3 Team Chase classes, competitors came from all over England and Wales to take part. Most of the nations “Open” teams took part and used the Intermediate class as a warm up for the qualifying events that are coming up in the weeks ahead.

This event always provides good entertainment and this year was no exception, some thrills and spills, bruised pride, but nothing more serious.

I thought that I would include one of the comments that we have received from a competitor “Many thanks to you and all your team of helpers for such a lovely day on Sunday. Please thank particularly your Clerk of the Course who did a stirling job with all the fences and the ground. The ground was perfect with enough juice in it from the recent rain. A special thank you to the fence judges and stewards who gave up their day to help at the event. It is much appreciated as it is often such a long day “.
